RIVERS KIRKAIG & INVER, Salmon Fishing:
The Rivers Kirkaig and Inver are in the North West Highlands of Scotland, in the county of Sutherland.
This is the most remote place on the British Mainland and fishing here is a true delight.
Laurence has been fishing these Rivers for 30 years + He caught his first ever salmon here in 1987 and has ben back more or less every year since.
This is rugged fishing, using double handed rods with LOTS of walking and scrambling.
Salmon fishing in the UK is not about numbers so if you are lucky in a week you might meet a fish or two, in 30 years Laurence has NEVER blanked in October, most years seeing the catch between those in the party (3-8 persons) at around 15-20 fish for the week.
Costs will depend on where you stay but as a guide the fishing is £150 a day, PER ROD with accomodation extra. A good B & B £100 and more, The Inver Lodge Hotel A LOT MORE !
You will need good water proofs, chest waders, Walking Boots and a double handed Salmon Rod of at least 13', a reel wth good drag, and a Gye net with sling. Typically we use Ally Tube flies of 0.5 to 2", Willie Gunn or the like, and a few size 6-8-10 doubles, Mediator, Cascade, Willie Gunn. Laurence uses the Collie Dog a lot in these Rivers.
